We had another great
day in the park for our 10th Anniversary event. It was very warm and
windy and storms threatened nearby, but it all worked out just fine.
There were two
different heats for the kids race due to the high number of
registrants. How wonderful was it to see all those children
exercising and having fun while learning about the importance of
heart healthy habits early in life! Did you catch the Apple Girl,
Banana Boy and Wheaties Guy walking around? They even cheered on the
kids and helped those who needed it most by running with them to the
finish line. The big tent full of childrens games and activities,
moonbounce and free soccer skills area provided by Bucks Mont Indoor
Sports was a huge hit. Every activity was thoughtfully planned to
send home a message of the importance of general safety, good eating
habits, exercise and not smoking to our kids.
Our walkers enjoyed
some of the shade in the back side of the park between the kids race
and the 5K. We are always thrilled to see people of all ages and
abilities out there moving and grooving!
The 5K race was a
terrific mix of seasoned competitive runners as well as 5K newbies
who were thrilled to complete their first 5K ever. Our youngest 5K
finisher was only 6 years old and our oldest was, well, let's say in
their 70's! Great photos and the race results are posted elsewhere
on our website.
The day was rounded
out with a ton of great food/drink, a raffle with great prizes and
music provided by our DJ.
We are thankful to all
of our volunteers (about 80 of them), business sponsors (about 75 of
them) and to all of the participants and their families who came out
and made it such a great day (about 1500 total!)
The monies raised with
purchase AED's for our community and support cardiac patients who
are in need of financial assistance with their medications or rehab
or treatments and also to our local elementary schools.
If you couldn't make
it this year, mark your calendar now for Sunday June 5, 2011 and
come back to our website during the year for more details on that
event.
We are always looking
for new businesses to help support us and volunteers. If you are
interested in either of these opportunities, please send us an email
or call.
